Happy Memorial Day Holiday. Are you monitoring your nestboxes at least once a week? If you are new at bluebirding, do you need some advice and guidance from our NABS Fact Sheet on how to keep track of the nests using good protocols for the safety of the birds and get full enjoyment doing so as a nest monitor? If you haven't seen this Fact Sheet yet, you'll find it very helpful. In addition to our bluebirds, all native birds should be welcomed in your nestboxes. This Fact Sheet can help you identify eggs and nests of the other species. Each species has its own unique beauty in nest building. Question: What other native cavity nesting birds are you getting in your nestboxes?

Behind the scenes, your NABS volunteers are hard at work for you and the bluebirds. ANNOUNCING.....the NABS Fact Sheet Committee has developed and recently published a NEW Fact Sheet, one you more than likely have not seen yet, the EASTERN BLUEBIRD NESTLING GROWTH CHART (daily detailed explanations and photos of development from Age Zero to Fledge Age)! It is a four-page color PDF that is downloadable and printable. We at NABS hope you enjoy using the new published Fact Sheet and will assist you in learning how to age the nestlings and recognize that critical 13th day of age (when to stop opening the nest boxes to deter premature fledging). FYI....two of the existing Fact Sheets viewed the most on the NABS website is House Sparrow Control and Predator Control--so important in helping the bluebirds survive in those challenges as they breed in your nest boxes. Please share this post and help others learn the development of the Eastern Bluebird nestlings "inside the box" before they take that exciting first flight event into the world.

If you are not already a member of NABS--a non-profit 501(c)3 organization---please consider joining NABS and help us help bluebirds and support to you as nest box monitors in this ongoing conservation and education effort. With your membership annually, of the many benefits we offer, included is the beautiful and high-quality color print copy that comes quarterly to your mailbox, the BLUEBIRD Journal. Any questions on membership can be sent to the Email address on the join page provided in the link below. Also linked below are NABS Affiliates -- your state organization may be included and many have their own Facebook pages. NABS appreciates the Affiliates. Thank you! We at NABS wish you a safe and healthy Memorial Day Weekend.

A report from bander Bill Hilton, Jr., of Hilton Pond (SC). Thanks for checking in with NABS, Bill. Really nice close look at this Eastern Bluebird male.

Thought we would share this question. The repeat observations of abandonment is concerning. Let's discuss some ideas.
