Another warning that we need to look closer at what is happening with our insect population before it is too late.

For the first time in my 30 years of monitoring bluebird nestboxes, I have a female bluebird that simply will not accept the spooker. I have tried for the last 2 days and she just will not go in the entrance. She laid her 5th egg this morning. I have stressed her enough today, clipping streamers together, etc. I will try tomorrow by putting the dowels up with no streamers. If she goes for that, I will add a streamer at a time and see how it goes. I have never had a female take longer than 30 minutes to enter the box.

Spring is on the way! Just for fun here is one of the greatest country songs ever about the bluebird -- "I heard the bluebird sing" (1952) by Jim Ed and Maxine Brown (siblings) they are both gone now -- along with their little sister Bonnie but their music lives on. I think their song captures the bluebird well? Enjoy!
